A Paris medical monograph of 1895 by Dr. Jean-Baptiste Charcot on progressive muscular atrophy of the Duchenne-Aran type, issued by Progrès médical for neurologists and clinicians studying degeneration of the spinal cord. The plates are microscope drawings of spinal cord cross-sections printed in carmine red on cream or in dense black stipple, with radiating fissures, butterfly-shaped grey matter and speckled cell columns — usable as organic sectional patterns, textured silhouettes and two-tone anatomical motifs.
