Les fleurs animées / par J.J. Grandville ; introductions par Alph. Karr ; texte par Taxile Delord.
A two-volume French illustrated gift book of 1847, published in Paris by Gabriel de Gonet, with plates by J.J. Grandville and text by Taxile Delord and Alphonse Karr, aimed at middle-class readers of flower lore and light satire. The hand-coloured steel engravings personify flowers as women in petal skirts, leaf bodices and calyx bonnets, set against pale washed landscapes and garlanded borders, with skeletal and insect figures for contrast; useful for costume silhouettes, botanical-human hybrids and soft period colour palettes.
