The natural arrangement and relations of the family of flycatchers, or muscicapidae / Illustrated by thirty-three coloured plates, with portrait and memoir of Baron Haller.

William Swainson · 1838 · Edinburgh : W. H. Lizars; [etc.], 1838. · 35 pictures

A volume of William Swainson's ornithological monograph on the flycatchers (Muscicapidae), issued in Edinburgh by W. H. Lizars in 1838 for subscribers to the cheap Naturalist's Library series, with a memoir of Albrecht von Haller. The thirty-three hand-coloured engravings each set one bird in profile on a bare forking branch, body washed in flat orange, yellow, olive or white against uncoloured line-etched backdrops of foliage, ferns, palms and water, giving usable cutout bird silhouettes and fine grey landscape textures.
