[Diagrams of natural philosophy / James Reynolds].

James Reynolds · 1850 · London : J. Reynolds, 1850?] · 22 pictures

A set of hand-coloured lithographed teaching diagrams on natural philosophy, issued by the London publisher James Reynolds around 1850 for classroom and lecture-room use by science teachers and self-improving readers. Numbered apparatus floats on plain cream grounds—electrostatic friction machines, retorts, hydraulic presses, balances, cutaway furnaces—interspersed with small watercolour-tinted landscapes, mineral heaps and two costumed figures, giving designers isolated instrument silhouettes, key-number layouts and a muted pink, ochre and green palette.
