A pocket-sized German physiognomy manual of 1813, translated from the French and published by Conrad Adolf Hartleben in Pest, teaching lay readers to read men's characters from their facial profiles after Lavater's principles. Thirty-three hand-coloured copperplates give numbered male heads in strict profile, hair and collars in fine engraved hatching, faces tinted pink on bare tan grounds—useful as silhouette-like character types.
