Le Lavater moral.
A small French collection of moral maxims issued under Lavater's name by the Paris publisher Louis Janet around 1820, sold as a pocket gift book for genteel readers interested in reading character. The plates pair figure vignettes framed in dense arabesque borders with engraved headpieces and tailpieces: symmetrical leaf-and-scroll ornaments, a winged cupid on a plinth, and a wine ewer among grapevines, all usable as rule-thin page furniture.
