An English edition of Antonie van Leeuwenhoek's microscope letters, translated by Samuel Hoole and printed in London in 1798-99 for the translator, aimed at naturalists and medical readers. Copperplate sheets group numbered, letter-keyed figures against blank ground: wood and bark sections, shells, seeds, globules, muscle and vessel fibres, and hatched circular fields, giving designers isolated specimen motifs and ready-made grid arrangements of small labelled diagrams.
