A French mineralogy report of 1789, printed in Paris by Cuchet, in which Louis-Charles-Henri Macquart describes rocks and ores gathered on a government-ordered journey through Poland, Russia and Siberia, lists the specimens deposited with the King, and maps the terrain around Moscow, addressed to naturalists and mining officials. The indexed pages are letterpress ornaments rather than plates: small woodcut bouquets, flower-filled baskets and fluted cornucopias with leafy sprays, printed in coarse black line on laid paper with text showing through, ready to lift as tailpieces, chapter breaks or spot motifs.
