Sketches of the country, character, and costume, in Portugal and Spain, made during the campaign, and on the route of the British army, in 1808 and 1809 / Engraved and coloured from the drawings by the Rev. William Bradford ... ; with incidental illustration, and appropriate descriptions, of each subject.
A folio of hand-coloured aquatints after drawings by the Rev. William Bradford, chaplain to the British army in Portugal and Spain, issued in London by John Booth in 1809 for readers following the Peninsular campaign. Single figures stand on bare mounds — muleteers, peasant women in long cloaks, a plumed-helmet dragoon — beside landscape plates, giving isolated costume studies with clean backgrounds and flat washes of brown, green and crimson.
