A monograph of the Testudinata / [Thomas Bell].
A monograph on turtles and tortoises by the English zoologist Thomas Bell, issued in parts in London between 1832 and 1836 for naturalists and collectors, with hand-coloured plates drawn by James de Carle Sowerby and Edward Lear. The plates give whole animals in profile on bare ground alongside shells seen from above and below, rendered in olive, ochre and brown with fine radiating growth lines and keeled scute borders — useful for pattern sources, tessellated shell geometry, and isolated animal silhouettes on blank paper.
