John Ruskin : on himself and things in general.
A promotional pamphlet issued by Cope's Tobacco Plant in Liverpool in 1893, reprinting Ruskin's remarks with satirical illustrations signed "J.W." (John Wallace), aimed at smokers and readers of the firm's advertising journal. The plates mix two-colour red-and-black silhouette vignettes of a pipe-smoking imp and dog, a crowded caricature of bird-like figures under hand-lettered display titles, a lance-bearing knight on a rearing horse, and a soft etched portrait of Ruskin on the Venice waterfront with facsimile signature.
