A 1776 Paris treatise by Antoine Court de Gébelin on the origin of language and universal grammar, abridged from his Monde primitif and sold by the author to scholarly subscribers. The indexed images are small letterpress tailpieces and headbands printed with the text — heart-shaped and shell-shaped cartouches, scrolled foliage, sprigs with berries and flower rosettes — usable as rule-breaks, section markers and small decorative stamps with visible woodcut hatching and ink spread.
