Weltgeschichte der Kunst bis zur Erbauung der Sophienkirche
A German-language survey of ancient art from prehistory to the building of Hagia Sophia, written by the archaeologist Ludwig von Sybel and published at Marburg in 1888 for students and university readers. The plates are coarse halftones of photographs and casts: temple entablatures with metopes and dentils, marble relief friezes of chariots, draped figures and winged Nike, and close-up profile heads, useful for high-contrast grain, carved ornament profiles, and drapery studies.
