Windmills, picturesque and historic : the Motors of the past
A 1919 survey of windmills by F. H. Shelton, printed by Lippincott in Philadelphia for engineers and antiquarians interested in early power machinery. Halftone photographs and a few pen sketches show tower, post and smock mills isolated against plain sky and open ground, giving clean silhouettes of sail lattices, ladders and tail poles that cut easily into stencils or logos.
