Johnny Gruelle Books & Comics
A gathering of Johnny Gruelle's American children's stories and comic pages from the 1910s onward, made for young readers by the illustrator-author who created Raggedy Ann. The pictures are ink-outlined cartoon scenes in flat watercolour washes, showing toy soldiers, bearded woodcarvers, animal-headed men in coats, and children in plain frocks and knickers against sketchy houses and orchards.
