Ye magick mirrour of old Japan
A short physics monograph by Silvanus P. Thompson, privately printed at the Chiswick Press in London in 1893, explaining how Japanese bronze hand-mirrors cast hidden figures in reflected light, addressed to antiquarians and scientific readers. Halftone plates pair each mirror's decorated back with the ghostly image it projects, while line cuts show round handled mirrors, wave and cloud patterns, and a dancing figure.
