A manual of practical seamanship by U.S. Navy officer Emory H. Taunt, published in Washington in 1893 for young sailors and naval apprentices, covering knots, rigging, rules of the road, signal flags and rescue of the drowned. The plates are small wood-engraved diagrams of rope work, rendered in fine hatched line on tinted stock, giving designers isolated knots, splices, eye loops and seizings usable as spot motifs.
