A Dutch emblem book on moral conduct and the sins of the tongue, written by Matthaeus Brouerius van Nidek and engraved by Jacob Folkema, Arnold Houbraken and Jacobus Schijnvoet for Amsterdam publishers Oosterwyk and Vande Gaete in 1716. The 48 small square copperplates set figures in canal streets, harbours with masted ships, wooded river valleys and hilltop ruins, each enclosed in a hatched ruled frame that works as a ready-made vignette border.
