Zederyke zinnebeelden der tonge
A Dutch emblem book on the moral uses and abuses of the tongue, written by Matthaeus Brouerius van Nidek and engraved by Jacob Folkema, Arnold Houbraken and Jacob Schijnvoet, published in Amsterdam in 1716 for readers of moralizing verse and emblem literature. The 46 plates are small square copperplates set in wide ruled and hatched borders, mixing church and palace interiors, quayside streets with moored ships, wooded streams and figures at fountains or hedges, built from dense parallel hatching with heavy cast shadows; useful for vignette frames, period architectural and harbour backdrops, and ready-made emblem cartouches.
