Zederyke zinnebeelden der tonge
Zederyke zinnebeelden der tonge is a Dutch emblem book of moral lessons on speech and the tongue, written by Matthaeus Brouerius van Nidek and engraved by Jacob Folkema, Arnold Houbraken and Jacobus Schijnvoet for Amsterdam publishers Oosterwyk and Vande Gaete in 1716. The 43 plates are small square etchings inside ruled ornamental borders, showing hilltop castles, rocky river valleys, tree-lined town canals and single figures acting out each lesson, with skies built from fine parallel hatching and radiating sun rays; useful for compact framed vignettes, engraved cloud and water textures, and borders.
