Stichtelyke zinnebeelden gepast op deugden en ondeugden in LVII tafereeellen vertoont
A Dutch emblem book of 1723, printed in Amsterdam by Willem Barents, with fifty-seven moral emblems designed by the painter and engraver Arnold Houbraken and verses by Gezine Brit, addressed to pious lay readers. The engravings are small round medallions set in ruled frames of wavy hatching, each holding a single figure in an open landscape — kneeling, weeping, digging, pointing at a tree — and they supply ready-made circular vignettes, dense line shading, and compact figure-in-landscape motifs.
