Confessions of a caricaturist
Oliver Herford's 1917 Scribner's collection pairs light verse portraits of contemporary writers, actors and public men with his own pen caricatures, made in New York for a general magazine-reading audience. The drawings are single figures in brush and pen, isolated on white, built from hatching, scribbled hair and checked suiting, with exaggerated profiles and small feet — useful for silhouette figures and quick line textures.
