twenty years, but are still unknown to niany. Water-cooled mills of the older pattern are of much earlier date. Few of my readers know where to look for the oldest paint-mill in America. It was very different from those now in use ; it con- sisted of a large flat rectangular stone, hollowed out to… … in diameter, which was rolled from end to end of this receptacle, and served both to mix and grind the contents.
