One of the illustrations shows a nest thatI helped an indigo bunting to build. The birdstarted the work in the edge of a brier patchabout a hundred feet from my tent. I gatheredsome wool from the barbed-wire fence of asheep pasture a mile away, and hung it with afew strips of cloth on a wire fence… … THE MATERIALS SHOULD ALWAYS BE PLACED WHERE THE WIND WILL MOVE THEM BUT NOT BLOW THEM AWAY. In addition to the raw material, I furnished alittle delicate landscape gardening immediatelyabout the nest; the bird did the rest.
