Academy notes
Academy Notes is Henry Blackburn's annual pocket guide to the Royal Academy summer exhibition, published in London by Chatto and Windus in 1875 for gallery visitors working their way through the rooms. Its plates are small pen sketches copied from the exhibited paintings — costume scenes, domestic interiors, garden and banquet groups — each tagged with catalogue number and canvas size, alongside diagrams of numbered hanging walls, useful for loose line figure work, period interiors and numeral-grid layouts.
