Ancient faiths embodied in ancient names: or, An attempt to trace the religious belief, sacred rites, and holy emblems of certain nations, by an interpretation of the names given to children by priestly authority, or assumed by prophets, kings, and hierarchs
Thomas Inman's comparative study of religious names, rites and emblems, published in London by Trübner in 1872 for Victorian scholars of mythology and philology. The plates are outline line drawings of crescents, crosses, serpents, lotus and palm forms, standing figures and seals, many grouped as numbered sheets — usable as clean symbol stock, ornament motifs and diagrammatic glyphs.
