Apotheosis and after life;
Eugénie Strong's 1916 Dutton volume collects three lectures on Roman imperial art and funerary religion, written for students and readers of classical archaeology. The plates are halftone photographs of carved marble — sarcophagus panels, altar sides, and fragmentary reliefs shot against black, with draped figures, winged genii, horses, garlands, and egg-and-dart moulding lit from one side; useful for stone texture, deep-shadow cutouts, and ornamental border details.
