Aquatic guide;
An 1891 sailing and yachting handbook issued in New York by Street & Smith, the dime-novel house, written to instruct amateur boatmen in rigging and seamanship. The plates are small pen-and-ink diagrams of knots, hitches, bends and lashings tied around hatched spars and belaying pins, with rope drawn as twisted cord in clean outline — usable as isolated marks, borders, or repeating motifs.
