Architect and engineer
A monthly architectural trade journal published in San Francisco from 1905 for West Coast architects, engineers, and contractors, carrying building news, technical articles, and photographic surveys of new work. The plates are high-contrast halftone photographs of apartment blocks, shingled hillside houses, and window and chimney details, often shot at night or against dark skies, giving designers stark white wall planes, ribbon-window rhythms, and heavy black shadow shapes.
