Art in France
A one-volume survey of French art from the Middle Ages to the nineteenth century by the French art historian Louis Hourticq, issued in English by Scribner in New York in 1911 for general readers and students. The 916 illustrations are small halftone photographs — cathedral portals and carved jamb figures, recumbent tomb effigies behind iron grilles, chimneypieces and interiors, plus reproductions of paintings — printed in soft coarse grey that suits high-contrast reworking, silhouetting or use as texture.
