The boy's own book;
A compendium of games, sports and amusements for boys, compiled by William Clarke and issued in Boston by Munroe and Francis in 1834. Small wood engravings show single figures demonstrating exercises — pushing a post, bending to the ground, balancing a pole, lunging with a stick — drawn in fine hatching with cast shadows and no background, easy to cut out and reuse as spot figures.
