A short engineering treatise by Mansfield Merriman on the theory and calculation of continuous bridges, published by D. Van Nostrand in New York in 1876 for civil engineers and students of structural analysis. The indexed images are not bridge diagrams but ownership marks from the University of California copy: oval rubber stamps reading "Library of the University of California" in mixed serif and sans faces, and an engraved ex libris bookplate with the 1868 seal showing an open book, rayed star, and "Fiat Lux" ribbon inside a framed border, useful as period lettering and seal artwork.
