Picturesque English cottages and their doorway gardens
A 1905 survey of English vernacular cottages and their gardens written by the Berkshire clergyman-antiquary P. H. Ditchfield and issued in Philadelphia by J. C. Winston for American readers with an interest in old English building. The 144 halftone photographs show thatched and tiled roofs, half-timbered and plastered walls, leaded casements, brick garden walls, paling fences and overgrown shrubbery, useful as reference for building textures, roof silhouettes and hedge-and-garden foregrounds.
