A sketch of the origin and progress of steam navigation from authentic documents

Woodcroft, Bennet, 1803-1879 · 1848 · London : Taylor, Walton, and Maberly · 32 pictures

A technical history of steam navigation compiled from patent specifications and other documents by Bennet Woodcroft, published in London in 1848 for engineers, patent agents and readers of maritime invention. The plates are engraved line drawings of early steam vessels in side elevation, deck plan and stern view, with paddle wheels, rudders, hatches and railings drawn to scale and hulls shaded in fine stipple and hatching, useful as clean mechanical silhouettes and cutaway diagram vocabulary.
