The dining room and its appointments
A household manual issued by the Butterick Publishing Company in London and New York in 1896, covering dining-room furnishing and the embroidered linen that dressed the table, aimed at middle-class housekeepers who did their own needlework. Most plates are outline designs for square doilies, centrepieces and round mats: scrolled corner borders, four-petal sprigs, fringed edges and open centres left blank for monograms or type.
