Di Polidoro Virgilio da Vrbino De gli inventori delle cose : libri otto
An Italian translation by Francesco Baldelli of Polydore Vergil's De inventoribus rerum, a survey of the origins of arts, crafts and church customs, printed in Florence by Filippo and Jacopo Giunti in 1587 for lay readers of vernacular learning. The illustrations are small woodcut initials in which the letter frames a scene—men at a window, a winged figure, figures leaning against the uprights—printed in coarse black hatching that designers can lift as drop caps, spot vignettes or texture samples.
