Dutch art in the 19th century;

Marius, Gerarda Hermina, 1854-1919 · 1909 · Philadelphia, Lippincott · 129 pictures

A survey of nineteenth-century Dutch painting by Gerarda Hermina Marius, issued in English by Lippincott in Philadelphia in 1909 for art students, collectors and general readers of the Hague School revival. The plates are monochrome halftones of paintings: low horizons, wide cloud banks, cattle in wet meadows, silhouetted trees and canal banks, printed in soft greys that dissolve detail into tonal masses useful as atmospheric backgrounds and textures.
