Euclid and his modern rivals
A satirical dialogue in defence of Euclid's Elements against contemporary geometry textbooks, written by Lewis Carroll and published by Macmillan in London in 1885 for schoolmasters and mathematics teachers. Plain wood-engraved line diagrams of lettered triangles and curves plotted on X-Y axes sit alongside Macmillan's circular printer's device, with butterfly, bee, stars and strawberries on a stippled ground.
