Gazette des beaux-arts

1859 · [Paris, s.n.] · 130 pictures

Gazette des beaux-arts, a Paris art review begun in 1859 for collectors, dealers and connoisseurs, reproducing museum holdings, private cabinets and architectural ornament through engraved and etched plates. The pictures run to decorative fragments drawn in fine line: Renaissance arabesque friezes with grotesque masks and heraldic beasts, an interlaced metal book cover, a carved panel of knotted cord, crown and fleur-de-lis, all usable as borders, headpieces and tailpieces.
