Gazette des beaux-arts
Gazette des beaux-arts, the Paris art review founded in 1859 and issued for collectors, critics and connoisseurs, carried etched and pen-drawn plates reproducing paintings, drawings and sculpture from European collections. The plates here are facsimiles of old-master sketches: seated draped figures, nudes braced against a wall, a crucifixion and tangled falling bodies, all built from open parallel hatching that leaves paper bare, useful for line-only figure reference and loose ink texture.
