A graphic study of sounds waves emitted by singing tubes
A 1920 physics thesis by Claude Jerome Lapp, submitted at the University of Illinois, recording the sound waves produced by singing tubes for examiners and fellow acousticians. The plates are horizontal photographic strips of traced wave curves — thick black sine forms on cream stock, varying in frequency, amplitude and evenness — ready-made rules, borders and repeating line patterns with visible plate dust and scratches.
