Greek bronzes
A. S. Murray's Greek Bronzes (Seeley, London, and Macmillan, New York, 1898), a survey of ancient Greek bronze statuary and small figures written for museum-going readers and students of classical art. The plates are halftone photographs of single figures lit against black or plain grounds, mostly nude standing youths, athletes and votive statuettes shown full length on plinths, giving designers cut-out silhouettes, strong tonal contrast and antique figure poses.
