A practical treatise on painting : in three parts ; consisting of hints on composition, chiaroscuro, and colouring ; the whole illustrated by examples from the Italian, Venetian, Flemish, and Dutch schools
A manual of painting theory by the Scottish engraver John Burnet, published in London by J. Carpenter in 1827 for artists and students, covering composition, chiaroscuro and colouring. The plates are small etched copies after Italian, Venetian, Flemish and Dutch pictures, several grouped on a sheet, plus line diagrams of light-and-dark massing and pyramidal grouping; useful for compact tonal studies, figure-group schemes and landscape vignettes.
