The Herald and genealogist
A Victorian heraldic and genealogical journal edited by John Gough Nichols, published in London from 1865 for antiquaries, armorists and family historians. The illustrations are small line-block shields, lozenges and crests, filled with charges such as swans, crosses crosslet, ermine spots, rampant lions and hammers, offering ready-made coats of arms, quartered field patterns and isolated heraldic motifs.
