The historic gallery of portraits and paintings; or, Biographical review:
A nine-volume British compendium of engraved portraits and copies after paintings, with accompanying biographies, issued in London by Vernor, Hood and Sharpe from 1807 for general readers and print collectors. The plates are pure outline engravings without shading: bust portraits in ruled rectangular frames, and classical figure groups reduced to contour, useful for drapery folds, ruff and collar shapes, and line-only figure silhouettes.
