How to lay out a garden : intended as a general guide in choosing, forming, or improving an estate, (from a quarter of an acre to a hundred acres in extent) with reference to both design and execution
Edward Kemp's landscape gardening manual, issued in New York by Wiley in 1860 for owners and improvers of estates from a quarter-acre to a hundred acres. Wood-engraved plans, sections and perspectives show clumped tree masses drawn as stippled blobs, curving drives and paths, hatched ground profiles, scale bars and geometric parterre layouts, useful as map textures and diagram furniture.
