How to select a plan and how to build a house by R.W. Shoppell.
A mail-order house-plan catalogue issued by Robert W. Shoppell's Co-operative Building Plan Association in New York in 1887, aimed at prospective home builders choosing a design to order. The pen-and-ink elevations show frame suburban houses with porches, dormers, turrets and shingled gables, each captioned in hand-lettered script and set against sketchy trees or a loose oval vignette border, offering ready building silhouettes, lettering models and informal framing devices.
