A survey of architectural history by the critic Charles H. Caffin, published in New York by Dodd, Mead in 1917 for students and general readers tracing building styles as products of successive civilisations. The 252 plates are halftone photographs of cathedrals, temples and civic buildings, mostly full facades and flank views in flat grey tones, useful for tracery, gables, arcades and roof silhouettes.
