The arts in the middle ages, and at the period of the Renaissance
Paul Lacroix, writing as P. L. Jacob, compiled this survey of medieval and Renaissance art objects, issued in London by Chapman and Hall in 1875 for Victorian general readers and collectors. The wood engravings copy manuscript miniatures, carved ivory panels, goldsmiths' work, enamels and furniture, giving flat outlined figures in registers and frames alongside dense strapwork cartouches with caryatids, masks and pendant jewels; useful for borders, ornamental frames and costumed figure groups.
