International studio
An illustrated art monthly, the New York edition of London's The Studio, begun in 1897 for artists, collectors and decorative trades. The 542 plates are halftone reproductions of contemporary paintings, drawings and applied design: soft tonal landscapes with massed trees, garden and architectural views, seated portraits, plus ornament and interiors, useful as grey-scale texture, atmospheric backgrounds and turn-of-century figure poses.
